About the Author

John Rousmaniere's many books include histories of the Davis Polk & Wardwell law firm, the Equitable Life Assurance Society, the New York Yacht Club, the Evergreens Cemetery in Brooklyn, the Piping Rock Club, and other organizations, as well as histories and technical books on maritime subjects, including After the Storm, Fastnet, Force 10, The Annapolis Book of Seamanship, and In a Class by Herself: The Yawl "Bolero" and the Passion for Craftsmanship. He is a contributor to The Encyclopedia of New York City and The Oxford Encyclopedia of Maritime History. A graduate of Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary, he taught American history at West Point during his Army duty. He lives in Manhattan and is a member of the New York Yacht Club and the Century Association.
